Mano po

March 1, 2007

Filipinos are known all over the world as being respectful especially towards our elders.  Chinese also have this trait.  Being a “Chinay” short for Chinese and Pinay, I can say that my Papa and Mama are doing their best to instill in my youthful mind this trait more than the others.  Of course they do teach me other stuff about my heritage but they thing that this is the most important.  We have a lot to be thankful for to our elders.  Especially our grandparents and parents. (in Mama’s case her siblings and relatives).  Our elders help us grow into what we are.

Papa and Mama are both pleased that their effort is not wasted on me.  Our first lesson was the “mano”  they had been trying to teach me on and off since December of last year but I was often too lazy and “suplada”  Today, A-cu dropped by and He was also very pleased when I was able to execute the perfect “mano”.  Not just my head touching his hand but I held his hand and brought it to my head.  What a great day.  I hope I would be able to remain respectful of my elders and others even when I’m already old.
